Tinnitus management

You don't have to just learn to live with it.

Tinnitus affects people differently: for some it's an occasional annoyance, for others it's a constant presence that touches sleep, focus, and daily wellbeing. At Kun Hearing, Dr. Kun takes the time to understand your specific experience and works with you on a management plan that's built around your life.

  1. Step 1

    History & questionnaires

We begin by understanding your tinnitus from your perspective. Dr. Kun reviews your medical history and asks about when your tinnitus started, what it sounds like, and how it's affecting your daily life and sleep. Validated questionnaires help capture the full picture of its impact before any assessment begins.

  2. Step 2

    Hearing evaluation & tinnitus assessment

Because tinnitus and hearing health are closely connected, every tinnitus appointment includes a comprehensive diagnostic hearing evaluation. When your tinnitus is present and measurable at the visit, Dr. Kun also assesses its specific characteristics through pitch and loudness matching, minimum masking level, and residual inhibition testing. Some patients don't experience their tinnitus during the appointment; when that happens, we focus on your history, its impact, and your hearing health, and revisit the tinnitus-specific measures when your symptoms are present.

  3. Step 3

    Understanding your tinnitus

Tinnitus rarely has a single cause. Dr. Kun walks you through your results and discusses the factors that may be contributing, from hearing loss and noise exposure to stress, jaw tension, and beyond. When additional support is needed, she provides referrals to the right specialists.

  4. Step 4

    Management strategies & ongoing support

Your plan is built around what works for your hearing and your life. This may include ear-level devices for sound relief, hearing aids if hearing loss is present, app and resource recommendations for daily support, and strategies for the situations where your tinnitus is most disruptive.

There is currently no universal cure for tinnitus, but there are effective management strategies that can significantly reduce its impact. Many patients find meaningful relief through sound therapy, amplification, and a care plan tailored to their specific experience and triggers.

Plan for about 60 minutes. That covers your intake and questionnaires, the full assessment, and time to review your results and management options with Dr. Kun. You'll leave with a clear plan and resources to support you beyond the appointment.

Options vary by individual and may include ear-level devices for sound relief, hearing aids if hearing loss is also present, app and resource recommendations for daily support, and referrals to other specialists when contributing factors point that direction, such as a dentist or CBT therapist.

It's never too late. Whether your tinnitus is recent or has been part of your life for a long time, a structured care plan can make a real difference. Many patients who have been managing on their own find that a personalized approach changes their relationship with their tinnitus significantly.

Not always, though the two are closely connected. Because of that association, a comprehensive diagnostic hearing evaluation is part of every tinnitus appointment. If hearing loss is present, addressing it through amplification can often bring tinnitus relief as well, and either way your care plan will be built around your full picture.
