Finding the right earmold
We start with a conversation about how you plan to use your earmolds, your medical history, and any experiences you've had with earplugs in the past. Whether you're a musician looking for clear, protected sound or a swimmer who needs a solid seal, Dr. Kun helps you identify the right option for your lifestyle.

Ear examination & impressions
Dr. Kun examines your ear canals using a video otoscope before taking your impressions, then checks again afterward to confirm your ears look healthy. The impression process itself is quick and comfortable, and you'll choose your color and finalize your options before leaving the first appointment.

Your earmolds are crafted
Your impressions are sent to a specialized lab where your earmolds are custom-made to the exact shape of your ears. Most orders are ready within approximately two weeks, and we'll let you know when they arrive.

Fitting & care instructions
When your earmolds are in, you come back for a second appointment. Dr. Kun evaluates the fit, makes any adjustments needed, and walks you through how to use and care for your earmolds so they hold up over time.
Two appointments. A fit that lasts.
Your first visit covers the consultation, ear exam, and impressions. Your second visit, about two weeks later, is for fitting and care instructions. Both are part of the process.
Generic earplugs don't fit every ear. Custom ones do.
Standard earplugs are designed for an average ear, which means they often sit loosely, fall out with movement, or create enough discomfort that people stop wearing them. A custom earmold fits your ear precisely, giving you consistent protection, better comfort for extended wear, and a seal you can rely on.
At Kun Hearing, custom earmolds are available for a wide range of uses: musician's plugs with flat-attenuation filters that protect your hearing without muddying the sound, solid swim plugs, sleep plugs, active hearing protection for shooters and hunters (SoundGear Phantom), surf earplugs that block water while still letting you hear (TLS Duck Dive), in-ear monitor molds, and molds for AirPods or other earbuds when standard tips don't fit.

You're welcome to bring a spouse, family member, or close friend. If you're getting earmolds for a specific activity like music or sport, having someone familiar with that context along can make the conversation more useful.

Yes. If standard eartips don't fit your ears comfortably or securely, we can make custom molds to fit your specific earbuds or in-ear monitors. Contact us with the make and model information before your appointment so we can prepare accordingly.
Dr. Kun walks you through care instructions at your second appointment. In general, earmolds should be wiped down regularly, kept away from heat and direct sunlight when not in use, and stored in their case. With proper care, most custom earmolds last several years.
