Cerumen management

Safe, gentle removal tailored to your ears.

Earwax buildup can cause muffled hearing, a feeling of fullness, discomfort, or ringing in the ears. At Kun Hearing, Dr. Kun takes a thorough, personalized approach: she examines your ears before and after removal, selects the method that's right for your specific anatomy and history, and makes sure you leave knowing how to care for your ears going forward.

  1. Step 1

    History & consultation

We begin by understanding your situation: how long you've been dealing with buildup, whether you've tried at-home removal, and what methods have or haven't worked for you in the past. This helps Dr. Kun approach your appointment with the full picture from the start.

  2. Step 2

    Pre-removal ear examination

Before any removal begins, Dr. Kun uses a video otoscope to examine your ear canals and eardrums. You can see the same image she sees, which helps set clear expectations for what the removal will involve and confirms that it's safe to proceed.

  3. Step 3

    Personalized removal

Three methods are available depending on your ears and history: the Earigator for warm water irrigation with adjustable pressure, microsuction for gentle direct removal, and manual removal using a curette for more precise work. Dr. Kun explains what to expect before starting and checks in with you throughout.

  4. Step 4

    Post-removal check & education

After removal, Dr. Kun uses the otoscope again to confirm your ear canal is clear and healthy. She'll also walk you through safe at-home ear care, explain how the ear naturally cleans itself, and discuss what level of ongoing care, if any, your ears actually need.

What to expect

From first look to final check.

Dr. Kun examines your ears before and after removal, so you can see exactly what's there and leave knowing everything looks healthy.

More than just a clean-out

Earwax removal done gently, explained clearly.

Cerumen isn't something to be feared or constantly cleared out. It's a natural substance that protects your ear canal from dust, debris, and infection, and your ears are actually designed to clean themselves over time. In many cases, routine professional removal isn't necessary at all.

That said, some ears produce more than they can clear on their own, or have features that cause buildup regardless. When that's the case, Dr. Kun provides safe, effective removal alongside a genuine conversation about your ear anatomy and what ongoing care looks like for you specifically.

Common signs include muffled or reduced hearing, a sensation of fullness or pressure, ear discomfort, or ringing. That said, not all buildup causes symptoms, and Dr. Kun's pre-removal otoscopy will confirm whether removal is actually needed before anything begins.

Yes, when performed by a trained professional using appropriate tools. Dr. Kun selects the method best suited to your ears and history, examines your canal before and after, and monitors your comfort throughout. Home methods like cotton swabs or ear candles carry a much higher risk of pushing wax deeper or causing irritation.

That depends on your medical history, your ear anatomy, and the type and amount of cerumen present. Dr. Kun may use the Earigator for warm water irrigation, microsuction for gentle direct removal, or manual removal with a curette. She'll explain the chosen approach and what to expect before starting.

Cotton swabs tend to push earwax further into the canal rather than removing it, which can make buildup worse. Ear candling is not a safe or effective method. Dr. Kun will walk you through safer alternatives and help you understand what, if any, at-home care your ears need.

Most appointments take about 30 minutes. That includes the intake conversation, the pre-removal otoscopy, the removal itself, a post-removal check, and time for Dr. Kun to go over aftercare with you before you leave.
