Dr. Valerie T. Kun

Dr. Kun grew up as a first-generation Taiwanese American in the San Gabriel Valley, watching family members navigate healthcare in a language that wasn't their own. That early experience shaped a core conviction: good care begins with being understood, not just examined.

She saw that principle in action from an early age, spending time at her mother's hearing aid practice in Monterey Park and watching what thoughtful hearing care could do for patients' lives: the quality of life it gave back, and the lasting relationships it built. That's what drew her to audiology, and to private practice specifically, where she can give each patient the unhurried time they deserve.

She earned her BA Summa Cum Laude from Cal State LA, then completed her Doctor of Audiology at Northwestern University. After nearly four years at a private practice in Northern California, first as an extern and then as a staff audiologist, she returned home to the San Gabriel Valley and founded Kun Hearing to bring that same standard of care to her own community, where evidence-based best practices like Electroacoustic Analysis, Real Ear Measurement and speech-in-noise testing are the standard, not the exception.

"Because our ears are so complex, each ear and hearing ability is unique, similar to a fingerprint. Even if two individuals have the same hearing loss pattern, their experiences can be entirely different. What works for your neighbor's hearing may not work the same for you."

She sees patients in English and Mandarin. The Kun Hearing team also offers care in Cantonese and Spanish. Outside the clinic, she has a Husky at home, our unofficial mascot.
